Good Day, Ladies and Gentlemen! And Welcome Aboard! On behalf of the Colorful and Charming Art of Susan Elizabeth Jones, it is my pleasure to welcome you to your Adventure Awaits! Supplies List. All cell phones are welcome on this trip, You may even want to download an app or two to help with your sketching (Painting Grid Maker and Waterlogue are both good). So as we get ready for departure, you'll want to make sure you have these items, packed, cross checked and ready for the workshop. Thank you!
Adventure Awaits! Supplies List
Travel Journal. I have two- One was an Arteza hard bound 8 x 11 journal purchased on sale at Michael's for $5 and the other is a handmade, deckle-edged, watercolor paper journal for $25. Even though I love them both, I find I use the $5 more. Walmart has the spiral bound version ranging in price from $1.47 - $10. Nothing too small or too large, pick a journal between the sizes of 5 x 8 and 8 x 11 or so.
Travel Watercolor Set. I have many of these and like my Winsor Newton one best. They come in 3 sizes with varying amount of colors. Small, Medium, and Large. These are professional watercolors, but you may prefer to get a set with student-grade colors or forego a travel set altogether and choose watercolor paint pens instead. (I love my watercolor pens, but you can't carry them on a plane. Dry, half-pans can be carried on a plane. Either can be checked in luggage.) No particular brand or style are required. Just have fun shopping and pick out what you like best. Think small and lightweight.
Paint Brush. If you purchase a Travel Watercolor Set, you probably will get a small, round, watercolor paintbrush in the kit. However, if you like a variety or your kit didn't come with a brush, you'll want to purchase 1-3 in various, small size brushes to pack in your travel tote bag.
Black Ink Pen. I like both the Micron 05 and the Sharpie Fine Tip. Even a good black ballpoint pen will work.
White Ink Pen. I have the Signo white gel pen. I don't use it often, but it's nice to know it's in the tote bag should I need to correct mistakes.
Pencil with Eraser. I like the mechanical Papermate Sharpwriter #2. They are inexpensive and don't require a sharpener.
Tote Bag. Or purse or big pocket to carry your supplies.
Camera. The one in your phone is preferred. That way we can apply apps, if needed.
Bottle Water. For cleaning your brush and for you to stay hydrated.
Paper Towels. For cleaning your brush. I typically pack 2-3 towels, and not the whole roll. Think compact and lightweight.
Please note: You will definitely want your own watercolor journal. If you prefer to borrow the other supplies from me, you are most welcome to do that. You'll have a better understanding of what to purchase after the workshop. However, please let me know what you would like to borrow so that I may know to pack extra for our day painting together.
Ladies and gentlemen, the Captain has turned on the Fasten Seat Belt sign. You are free to go shop and anticipate our next Adventure!
